My name is Lance Weatherby.
I build Internet companies. I am currently COO at Half Off Depot.
Previously I was a startup catalyst with the atdc at Georgia Tech where I focused on helping Internet startups. In addition to my official duties at atdc, I was involved in a number of projects to develop the startup community in Atlanta. I led the effort to bring Startup Weekend to Atlanta. I co-founded Skribit, Twitpay and Socialytics.
I founded the Enfuse Group, an Internet marketing firm focused on growing technology companies.
I spent a period of time as Chief Marketing Officer at CipherTrust, which was purchased by Secure Computing for $274 million.
Before that I was an EVP at EarthLink. As a general manager I started the mobile wireless business group and grew it to a $45 million business.
I made my way to EarthLink via MindSpring where I ran business development, marketing, product management, and for a period of time engineering/product development. I started at MindSpring pretty early on, when the company was still in atdc.
I worked at Mobil for about five years before I entered the Internet world.
I left the Bluegrass state to get my MBA from Indiana University. I served on the board of the Kelley School Alumni Association for a spell.
I met Abby, my wife, there. We have two great kids now. I write about them from time to time. They are OK with that. Even enjoy it.
I grew up in Louisville. Three good things came out of that. I can sing the words to "My Old Kentucky Home", can make a mean mint julep without a recipe, and hunt if I get the notion to do so.
I love my family. I love my job. I also love food, the Internet, photography, skiing, scuba diving, sports, wine, working out, and yoga. I love going to the beach from time to time. I am taking up tennis, my team won a city championship our first year.
I believe that the most important step to being happy is deciding that is what you are going to be.
