Great interest in this concept.  Here is the company's pitch.

I love using Wifi Cat to keep track of my cat when I am away from home and to enjoy a glass of wine while looking over new deals on my laptop in the comfort of my home. This is why I invested in Wifi Cat.

You guys are so busy making fun of this that you've failed to see the real opportunity.

Stray Cats. Municipal Wifi. Collar and release. They will spread out and blanket the area. Got a lot of people at an event needing wifi? Put out some cat food. You can tune the network with dogs, cat food and cat nip.

There is real potential here.

To repeat a tweet I sent to you and Paul earlier, since it plays so well with the last comment: Make a companion product WiMax Dog, to take advantage of larger roaming areas.

Great Concept. Can be expanded to wildlife to provide coverage in rural areas and identify road-kill. You can attach it to children at amusement parks and mount permanent wifi on top of bald people. Who needs WiMax or satelite.

I particularly enjoy WiFi Cat 2.0

No wants wifi. Can has cat nip?

Somebody should let the CDC know the Cat has gone viral.

WiFi Dog will be a great complimentary product. Outfit dogs with similar collars. When they run away, use technology similar to that that runs Mozilla Geode and scan wifi networks that can be picked up from where the dog is at, and bingo - you can locate the dog. Just need a way to transmit that data back to the server (open wifi network?)

can hasz mouse?

Catz  |  Feb 19, 09 at 02:54 PM

Can anyone tell me about the Wifi Cat deal? Got any other deals for me?

Urvaksh Karkaria  |  Feb 19, 09 at 02:58 PM

I tried to do my I-evangelizing thing about WiFi Cat, but my wifi kept going out on me.

SpaceyG  |  Feb 19, 09 at 03:06 PM

Sig will fund this piece of crap but not my kitty caviar idea? Nobody in Atlanta 'GETS IT' I'm running away to Silicon Valley where all the cool cats hang out.

Sig's Cat  |  Feb 19, 09 at 03:36 PM

how is this different from tracking an animal with a microchip?

Nick  |  Feb 19, 09 at 03:57 PM

I don't have a cat. Is this compatible with dogs?

Scott Ryan  |  Feb 19, 09 at 04:36 PM

My concern: by placing this technology into the paws of our cats, we gain the ability to track them... but we have also GIVEN THEM THE ABILITY TO TRACK US! They'll know all your passwords. All your bookmarks. All those, ahem, "special" sites that you like to visit.

Given that kind of information supremacy, any cat would be able to become complete lord and master of your home immediately.

No, wait, they ALREADY do that. Hmm.

soon enough, we'll have VOIP over wificat.... think construction workers.

Scott: A Wifi Dog offering is on our product roadmap.

Scott Burkett  |  Feb 19, 09 at 05:51 PM

You're right, Stephen. I have so much dirt on Sig its crazy. I made his last three investment decisions for him. But he still won't fund my Caviar idea. Make kitty sads!

Meow.

We considered WifiDog but rejected it. The patent pending energy harvesting technology means that the movement of the cat keeps the battery charged. With WifiDog, the batteries would be constantly drained.

Srsly. Tho, I typically sign in as AtlanTech. And I am glad to see tech community having fun

Atlantech  |  Feb 19, 09 at 08:33 PM

Um, Paul, have you ever owned a cat???

Stephen Fleming  |  Feb 19, 09 at 08:53 PM

I might have to cut off comments on this post. Not exactly sure what is real and what is not. With the exception of Sig's Cat. I am pretty sure that is a spoof. Unless Sig's cat is as smart as he is.

Lance  |  Feb 19, 09 at 08:56 PM

Shut it down and kitties release Skynet!

Meow

Sig's cat is apparently smart enough to sign up for a Twitter account @sigscat ! :-) Woke up to find he (she?) was following me...

Stephen Fleming  |  Feb 20, 09 at 06:32 AM

My cats are smarter than sigscat, they follow me and don't need twitter.

BTW, WifiFish was also rejected, getting the collars on was just too difficult.

Paul Freet  |  Feb 20, 09 at 11:55 AM

Just want to confirm my gender as male for all future references.

@sigscat  |  Feb 21, 09 at 05:05 PM

The team has really made a lot of progress with their model and service, and are finally ready to stand in front of investors. Today, Social networking component also allow to connect you to the larger network of WiFi Cat users. Thank you so much for sharing this video here.
