Bad Name, Great Service

EarthLink today announced that they are launching “DSL & Home Phone Service” Pretty catchy name. Netcom would have been better and followed recent practice.

With that said, this is a really really good product. I called EarthLink a month or so ago to ask if there was anyway to upgrade from my 1.5Mbps DSL service. That speed at $40 a month is no value.

Like lots of folks my telecommunications bill seems to be going up, not down. All in my family telecommuncations cost is somewhere around $250 a month, which is too much in my mind. So I was starting to look around to find some type of deal with Comcast or BellSouth to get higher speed and lower out of pocket costs.

Along comes EarthLink DSL & Home Phone Service, or Netcom if you prefer. The way I figure it I get to double my Internet connection speed, ditch BellSouth, get unlimited long distance and save about $40 a month in telecommunications cost. Thats a 16% savings that adds up to $500 a year.

It’s a great deal! I might have some obsure issues that stop me from using the service but it is still a great deal.

Now if they could get to work on that name….
